Details are Everything
When people think about wedding photos, they typically picture the first kiss, maybe some golden hour portraits. But some of the most timeless images from your day? The *details*!
As a Bay Area wedding photographer, detail photos are the very first thing I photograph upon arriving to the big day — and when couples are prepared and intentional with what they include, it makes a huge difference in how cohesive and elevated their gallery feels.
Here’s everything you need to know!
My Style of Detail Photos
Some photographers capture the details as a "flat lay", where they arrange your details on a flat surface and photograph them from above. While I like to get some birds-eye view photos like that, I also like to be super creative with my detail shots. I personally take a couple minutes to scout out the area and find unique ways to incorporate your details into the natural surroundings. I like to do several versions of detail photos - one of only the bride's items, one of only the groom's, and one combining them along with your stationary.
Flat lays and detail photos often include your invitations, rings, shoes, jewelry, perfume, vow books, and other meaningful pieces. They tie together your color palette, florals, and overall design in a way that feels intentional and editorial.
Think of it as a curated snapshot of the aesthetic of your wedding day — all the accessories, heirlooms, and finishing touches that tell your story!
Why Wedding Detail Photos Matter
Detail photos:
- Tell the full story of your day from beginning to end
- Capture items you carefully chose (and spent money on!)
- Preserve sentimental heirlooms
- Showcase your personality and wedding aesthetic
- Help your gallery feel cohesive, intentional, and high-end
You’ve put so much thought into your invitations, accessories, and styling. These photos make sure that effort doesn’t go unnoticed!

It's All About the Rings!
Your rings are one of the most meaningful details from your wedding day, so I love giving them their own moment to shine. I like to get a little creative — styling them with florals, placing them on textured details from your day, or arranging them in unique ways that highlight their beauty. Whether they’re nestled into your bouquet, perfectly balanced on top of each other, or framed by your invitation suite, these shots are designed to showcase the rings in a way that feels artistic, intentional, and completely unique to your wedding.
Pro Tip: Have Your Details Ready in One Box
The easiest way to ensure stunning detail photos? Put all your items in one box a few days before the wedding. Detail photos are typically the very first thing I photograph in the morning while hair and makeup is finishing up. If everything is gathered in one place, I can style and photograph them quickly and efficiently — which means more time for getting ready candids and relaxed portraits later. Trust me, you don't want to have to scramble last minute because you can't find your earrings!
